Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need another travel card?
Most people collect points with several credit cards mostly in efforts to buy airline tickets. Our extensive research is finding that the majority of people are noticing a significant delusion of point value and are becoming increasingly more annoyed at the real benefits their card truly delivers. The CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card offers exceptional value and is significantly better than other travel cards if you are Canadian and plan to cruise at least once every couple of years. While your primary reason to sign up for the CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card is for cruising we know that you likely will want some variety. CruisePlus is a member of the Ensemble Travel Group which represents over 1100 agencies in Canada and the US and has access to a very extensive preferred supplier list of tour operators, packaged holiday companies, hotels, resorts, car rental companies, ground handlers, insurance brokers and much more. Whether you are looking for an African safari or a trip to Tuscany we can be very competitive and offer knowledgeable service. With the huge buying power and influence of Ensemble, you can rest assured that there has been a tremendous amount of care in choosing their suppliers and quality is key. CruisePlus also creates an array of deluxe exclusive tours and packages. With 1 point for every dollar spent on net retail purchases using the card, and 7 bonus points for every cruise fare and most packages and tour dollars spent, no other card adds up to travel benefits like ours. When we first wrote the answer for this question we went into great detail on why we believe our card is better. If you are not convinced, then please give us a call and we'll give you more good reasons to sign up today!

Does the CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card offer complete trip insurance?
Please review the complete coverage provided by our CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card. We suggest that to protect yourself completely you top off your travel insurance by calling your CruisePlus sales agent.

Explain "Cruise fare"
When you receive a cruise quote there are generally four factors that make up a booking: The "cruise fare", the "NDA's or NCF's (which is the new way of saying port charges and other miscellaneous non discountable or commissionable fees), the "taxes" and the "fuel surcharges". You will receive 7 points per dollar on the "cruise fare" only as bonus points from CruisePlus for using the credit card. You also receive 1 point per net retail dollar for your complete travel costs by using your CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card as well.

I saw an offer advertised with a booking bonus for signing up for the CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card - please explain this
To be eligible for the points offered you must apply, be approved and activate your CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card. To activate you must use the card (within 60 days of the offer) for a regular purchase (groceries, gas, restaurant, etc.).

Do points expire?
You have 5 years after you have earned the points to use them in a first in first out basis. You must remain a cardholder in good standing with us and MBNA in order to redeem your points for cruises or for travel credits.

How do we find out about special offers?
A short while after you have activated your card you will be contacted by CruisePlus to discuss your cruise and travel preferences to determine which travel products and suppliers you are most interested in. You are applying for the CruisePlus Rewards Mastercard Credit Card to get exceptional value on cruising and it is important that you make the most of the program by receiving and always reviewing the current offers.

Can points be transferred or pooled?
No. They are your points and only for your personal or immediate family use and may not be sold, bartered or transferred. Families with supplementary cards will all earn points to the same account. The points are cardholder points only and can be redeemed in 2,500 increments. Each 2,500 points equals a $25 travel credit good for any travel product sold by CruisePlus.

When are points actually put into our account and when can we use them?
Within 4 -6 weeks after the departure date of the cruise you booked and under the ondition that you have not cancelled your booking. You use your points (or the credits redeemed) at the time of final payment on your future travel bookings.

If we pay for a cruise with CruisePlus travel credits or as a complete reward, do we receive additional points for that booking?
You will receive 7 bonus points per cruise fare dollar on that booking regardless if you pay for part or all of it with $25 travel credits. You would also receive 1 point per net retail dollar you charge using your CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card if there was any balance owing on that booking.

Will redemption amounts change?
If a supplier imposes different marketing rules with regards to programs like this we may be forced to change in order to stay in good standing with these suppliers. If this should happen you can be assured that we will work with the suppliers in order to offer our CruisePlus cardholders the best possible value. If we are forced to make changes we will give you plenty of notification.

Redeem 2,500 points for each $25 CruisePlus travel credit. Valid for any travel booked with CruisePlus, including air, hotels, packaged holidays, insurance, tours and of course cruises.

Bonus points associated with advertised promotions will be awarded within 4 to 6 weeks of the sailing date. In the event of cancellation, no bonus points will be awarded.

More About CruisePlus

What about service?
CruisePlus has an excellent 95% customer satisfaction ratio and with sales to an average of more than 5000 people a year you can be assured that you will be well looked after. You can expect experienced, friendly and knowledgeable agents when you call or visit us. Our mission is to provide the highest service level we possibly can. We have been to all 7 continents and you will be directed to an agent who can offer the best personal advice on the destination which interests you. Many of our clients prefer to talk with the same agent every time they book, which is always welcomed, but with our "team effort" philosophy and non commissioned agents there is no hard sell and no hard feelings if you wish to talk to others in our office who may be more experienced with your preferred supplier or itinerary. Let's face it - it is a big world out there, and while we always have product training we find that some of our staff simply can give better specific advice than others.

Is CruisePlus doing anything for charity?
Yes! We support local and international efforts primarily to benefit less fortunate children and look forward to increase our donations over time. We also welcome you as a cardholder to bring charitable ideas to us.

Does CruisePlus charge booking fees?
We will charge fees on airline and some hotel bookings. Depending on the cruise fare and the type of air chosen we often waive any fees. It is important for our clients to realize that to find the most appropriate air can take considerable time. Our goal is to provide you with exceptional service and we know you understand that in the world of limited air commissions we may have to impose our fees. If you book our advertised cruise, air & hotel packages without deviation there will be no extra fees added. Some internet agencies that you might think are discounting are actually charging full price for your cruise and then charging a booking fee on top. We never charge fees for booking cruise only. You are welcome to book your own air, but if you do, please be careful to allow plenty of time to get to the cruise terminal. If you miss the cruise we cannot be held responsible and the cruise lines will not likely wait for you. We recommend you allow at least 24 hours to be on the safer side. Please spend some time on our web site Cruiseplus.ca and take a good look at the "Things to Know" information.

Other Things To Know

All travel bookings are subject to cardholder and all passenger compliance with each booked supplier's own terms and conditions, which can include travel restrictions for pregnancy, age, health, citizenship, etc.

In order to redeem bonus points you must activate your card within 60 days of receiving it. To activate, you must purchase something (no matter what cost) with it. We have mentioned this before as it is very important that you remember this!

Travel requires risk and obligations, whether they be obtaining visas, vaccinations, passports, etc. and are solely the responsibility of the passengers. MBNA Canada Bank, CruisePlus Management Ltd. and CruiseCard Enterprises Ltd. or any of their respective affiliates cannot be held liable for any loss, damages or injuries that could happen. Passengers must be physically and mentally able to travel with any suppliers or carriers with whom they book. MBNA Canada Bank, CruisePlus Management Ltd. or any of their respective affiliates and CruiseCard Enterpises Ltd. cannot be responsible for any supplier delays, terrorism, acts of God, or any accidents that could cause injuries or death. CruisePlus acts as an agent for many suppliers, whether they be airlines, hotels, cruise lines, tour operators etc. and in no way can be liable for any non performance. We strongly recommend you consider trip cancellation, luggage and medical insurance coverage. Please note that some travelers may not be eligible for all types of insurance and should carefully discuss all options with your CruisePlus agent at the time of booking. Your CruisePlus Rewards MasterCard® Credit Card does have some insurance benefits but will not cover you completely. Please review your policy carefully for any restrictions.

When redeeming certificates certain passwords will be required to properly identify the cardholder with the CruisePlus booking agent. Each 2500 points accumulated can be redeemed for $25 non transferable credits up to the total value of any travel booking. To book and redeem your points, contact CruisePlus at 1-800-854-9664 or visit the web site at Cruiseplus.ca . Upon redemption at final payment in which the travel becomes 100% non refundable, CruisePlus will reduce the cardholders account by the requested amount of points. These points cannot be re-deposited into the account after this point if the cardholder cancels their booking. Points will only be re-deposited in the event that the travel supplier is unable to provide the service (or similar service) paid for. Delays or changes (which are common in the travel business) do not warrant any point re-deposits.
